Diamant vilar p\u00e5 en grund av innovation och mod och framg\u00e5ngarna kom tidigt. Ber\u00e4ttelsen om Diamant inneh\u00e5ller s\u00e5 v\u00e4l lyckosamma omst\u00e4ndigheter som misslyckanden och pr\u00f6vningar. Den reflekterar inte bara historia i v\u00e5r hemstad Chemnitz i Sachsen utan \u00e4ven industrihistoria i \u00d6sttyskland i stort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Den har texten kan k\u00e4nnas l\u00e5ng, men den \u00e4r v\u00e4l v\u00e4rd att l\u00e4sa. H\u00e4r \u00e4r en mycket kort sammanfattning:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>F\u00f6retaget grundas 1885 i Chemnitz-Reichenbrand som tillverkare av komponenter till stickmaskiner. F\u00f6r att f\u00f6rs\u00f6rja sig b\u00f6rjade han tillverka styrplattor f\u00f6r stickmaskiner p\u00e5 egen hand och blev s\u00e5 framg\u00e5ngsrik att hans bror Wilhelm b\u00f6rjade arbeta i f\u00f6retaget. En f\u00f6rsta f\u00f6rs\u00e4ljningssvacka fick br\u00f6derna att diversifiera tillverkningen till st\u00e5lstift f\u00f6r reservoarpennor. Stiften gjordes av en st\u00e5llegering som de kallade \u201dDiamant-st\u00e5l\u201d. N\u00e4r \u201dvelocipeden\u201d blev en succ\u00e9 i mitten av 1890-talet ins\u00e5g br\u00f6derna att deras st\u00e5l passade utm\u00e4rkt f\u00f6r tillverkning av cykelramar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wilhelm och Friedrich var uppfinnare i sj\u00e4l och hj\u00e4rta, och Diamant-cyklarna tillverkades minuti\u00f6s noggrannhet fr\u00e5n b\u00f6rjan \u2013 ett bevis p\u00e5 tysk ingenj\u00f6rskonst. \u00c5r 1898 hade de inf\u00f6rt tv\u00e5 banbrytande innovationer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>En cykellampa med stearinljus som gav ljus i m\u00f6rkret.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Den f\u00f6rsta rullkedjan i Tyskland, numera standard p\u00e5 alla cyklar.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Det h\u00e5rda arbetet gav resultat. Diamant-cyklarna blev popul\u00e4ra och 1911\/1912 blev Diamant f\u00f6retagets namn. Br\u00f6derna Nevoigt skyddade ocks\u00e5 sitt varum\u00e4rke med namnet och logotypen \u201dDiamant\u201d. Aff\u00e4rerna g\u00e5r str\u00e5lande och Diamant lyser starkt. Men under den stora depressionen bleknar \u00e4ven Diamants glans. Br\u00f6derna Nevoigt har sedan l\u00e4nge l\u00e4mnat f\u00f6retaget, och man har inte skiljts som v\u00e4nner. 1928 tar Opel \u00f6ver f\u00f6retaget under en orolig period. Diamant g\u00f6r ett kort inhopp p\u00e5 motorcykelmarknaden. N\u00e5gra av dessa maskiner hamnar till slut \u00e4nda borta i Indien. Under denna period l\u00e4ggs ocks\u00e5 grunden f\u00f6r den tidiga utvecklingen av elcykeln. Till exempel kunde Diamants transportcykel fr\u00e5n 1934 utrustas med en liten motor fr\u00e5n Fichtel &amp; Sachs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cyklarnas kvalitet f\u00f6rs\u00e4mras. Opel fokuserar p\u00e5 billig tillverkning f\u00f6r att \u00f6ka f\u00f6rs\u00e4ljningen genom l\u00e5ga priser. Men den inst\u00e4llningen passar helt enkelt inte f\u00f6r Diamant. Ledningen g\u00f6r uppror, \u00e5terf\u00e5r sitt sj\u00e4lvbest\u00e4mmande och fokuserar \u00e5terigen p\u00e5 h\u00f6gkvalitativa cyklar fr\u00e5n Sachsen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D\u00e5 bryter andra v\u00e4rldskriget ut. Detta \u00e4r v\u00e5r m\u00f6rkaste tid, eftersom Diamants cykelfabriker ocks\u00e5 anv\u00e4nde tv\u00e5ngsarbetare f\u00f6r vapenproduktion. Den 5 mars 1945 anfaller mer \u00e4n 900 amerikanska bombplan industristaden Chemnitz och l\u00e4mnar den i ruiner. Av ren tur klarar sig Diamant-fabrikerna utan att tr\u00e4ffas av bomberna. Som en del av Tysklands krigsskadest\u00e5nd m\u00e5ste en cykel- och biltillverkare i n\u00e4rliggande Zwickau montera ner sina maskiner och skicka dem till Sovjetunionen. \u00c4n en g\u00e5ng spelar slumpen en roll i Diamants \u00f6de: F\u00f6retaget \u00e4r s\u00e5 litet att det inte hinner ber\u00f6ras av krigsskadest\u00e5ndet. Det sovjetiska aktiebolaget Awtowelo (en f\u00f6rkortning av &#8221;sj\u00e4lvg\u00e5ende cykel&#8221;) tar \u00f6ver Diamant. Kort d\u00e4refter blir Diamant ett statligt f\u00f6retag i DDR. \u00c5terigen st\u00e5r cykeltillverkaren p\u00e5 randen till utpl\u00e5ning, eftersom staten har best\u00e4mt att f\u00f6retaget ska sluta tillverka cyklar och i st\u00e4llet fokusera p\u00e5 stickmaskiner.
